We are advertising for a Research Support Officer (interim) role. This role will be based in the Research Excellence team in Research and Innovation Services (RIS). This role will focus on sustainability with research, supporting the work of the Impact Officers to help deliver the annual Sustainable Development Goals report and submit to the Times Higher Education (THE) Sustainability World Impact Ratings (formerly known as the 'World Impact Rankings'). The successful candidate will acquire knowledge and understanding of LJMU research addressing the UN Sustainable Development Goals and will work across multiple departments, liaising with researchers and professional services. You will receive development support to and have the opportunity to lead on some projects. You will be a valued member of a friendly and supportive team, and we hope to gain some fresh insight and understandings based on your inputs!This role is only available to those who are registered for a PhD at LJMU.Even if you do not feel you meet all the 'skills' and 'experience' requirements of the person specification, you may be a strong candidate and we encourage you to apply. Duties and responsibilities
The purpose of the role is to support the work of the Impact Officer to deliver the annual university Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) report and submission to the Times Higher Education (THE) World Impact Ratings, which are focused on sustainability. The role will involve operational activity, contribution to strategy, and opportunities for your professional development.
The main duties will include:
- Identifying research projects which will be included within the annual SDG report.
- Working with researchers to develop short research-focussed case studies for inclusion within the report.
- Liaising with the marketing team to identify appropriate images, key facts and other information pertinent to the report.
- Identifying key pieces of evidence for the submission to the THE World Impact Ratings.
- Attending monthly steering group meetings to support the Impact Officer to report on progress of the report and submission data.
- Attendance at the LJMU Research and Knowledge Exchange Conference (December 2025).
Skills and experience
Qualifications:
- To be enrolled in a PhD at LJMU in any discipline.
Skills:
- The ability to plan projects that involve understanding and communicating research findings and methodologies.
- An appreciation of sustainability in the UK higher education sector and research.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, especially when interacting with new learners or non-expert audiences.
- Excellent office-based IT skills, including Microsoft Office packages.
- Excellent organisational and time-keeping skills.
Experience:
- Experience of developing projects that involve novel research findings and methodologies.
- Experience of supporting research outreach events.
- Experience of keeping detailed records.
- Experience of working with a team.
