Context
Applications are invited for this exciting opportunity to support the engagement and learning activities of the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) North Thames.
The Engagement Coordinator will assist the learning and development team (NIHR ARC North Thames Academy) with their wide range of activities and initiatives. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with a strong administrative background and interests and skills in engagement and community involvement, who has an understanding of the research environment, administrative systems and communications.The post is available part-time (0.6FTE) until 31 March 2026.
Main purpose of the job
The post holder will provide comprehensive support to the ARC North Thames Academy team, including the Director, Deputy Director, Lecturers and Training and Engagement coordinator to oversee creation and collation of resources (videos, case studies, practical examples) from social care, public health, local government and voluntary and community practice settings. These resources would be used in our short courses, advertising materials, and other communications and teaching materials.
This would enhance the learning and development opportunities we offer in the ARC and support engagement and outreach with underrepresented professions and communities with ARC North Thames. The role offers an exciting opportunity to work with senior leaders in research and healthcare, across university, local government, healthcare and community sectors, and with patients and the public, in a supportive and dynamic working environment.The post holder will work closely with members of the ARC core operational team and the Academy team to support their activities.
Duties and responsibilities
- Oversee collection and collation of case studies, videos, practical examples from a range of professional sectors, for use in Academy training and marketing materials.
- Engage and develop relationships with stakeholders in social care, local government and healthcare organisations.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen and enhance sustainability of initiatives, e.g. Social Care Learning Networks, Dementia Fellowships, Knowledge Mobilisation Fellowships, and engagement with local NIHR Health Determinants Research Collaborations and our Local Authority Public Health Research Network.
- Support organisation and delivery of internal and external ARC events, e.g. Knowledge Mobilisation Learning Community, Early Career Researcher Network Retreat.
- Support digital communications e.g. content creation/editing, social media, digital platforms.
General
- Co-ordinate own work with others to avoid conflict or duplication.
- The post-holder will actively follow UCL policies including Equal Opportunities and Race Equality policies.
- To act as a Fire Evacuation Marshall as required and maintain an awareness and observation of Fire and Health & Safety Regulations.
- Carrying out duties in a resource-efficient way and actively support UCL’s Sustainability Strategy.

- UCL offers hybrid working where appropriate and the successful applicant may normally work remotely for up to 40% of the week if they wish.
Skills and experience
Essential Criteria
Qualifications, experience and knowledge:
- Educated to A Level standard, or equivalent, or substantial equivalent experienceExperience of working in a complex organisation or collaboration with multiple internal/external stakeholders.
- Proven communications, stakeholder engagement and administrative experience.
- Experience of creating resources for education or engagement.
- Experience of developing digital content and managing social media accounts for professional purposes.
- Experience of working in a similar professional services role, preferably in an Academic environment.
Skills and abilities:
- Ability to work in a multi-professional team and collaborate, communicate with and influence senior academics, community organisations and NHS staff.
- Project management and organisational skills, including the ability to work effectively on numerous projects simultaneously while maintaining close attention to detail.
- Ability to take proactive steps where you see an opportunity to fulfil a need, or a system/process that could be improved.
- Ability to organise meetings, events and logistics efficiently and with minimum supervision.
- Excellent communication (written, oral and digital e.g. website updates, social media) and interpersonal skills.

- Experience of academic research grants, communication strategies and administrative systems.

Location
UCL; Hybrid working with 1, 2 or 3 days per week from the office depending on need
