Description
Role
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Media Psychology Intern to join our team for an 51-hour paid internship. This position involves performing a systematic review of the literature on 'how people discover information on the internet' in collaboration with the BBC. The intern will work closely with our research team to conduct comprehensive literature searches, critically examine published literature, and summarize the findings in a detailed report.
Students from School of Arts & Media and Health & Society are encouraged to apply.
Duties and responsibilities
- Literature Search: Conduct systematic searches of academic databases and other relevant sources to gather literature on how people discover information on the internet.
- Critical Examination: Critically evaluate the quality and relevance of the literature, identifying key themes, methodologies, and findings.
- Summarization: Summarize the results of the literature review in a clear and concise report, highlighting significant insights and trends.
- Collaboration: Work collaboratively with the research team and BBC representatives to ensure the review meets project objectives and standards.
- Reporting: Present findings in written and verbal formats, ensuring clarity and coherence in the presentation of results.
- Reliability and Punctuality: Demonstrate reliability and punctuality in meeting deadlines and attending scheduled meetings.
Skills and experience
Essential Criteria
- Education: Currently enrolled in a degree program in Psychology, or a related field.
- Research Skills: Demonstrated ability to conduct literature searches using academic databases (e.g., PubMed, PsycINFO, Google Scholar).
- Critical Thinking: Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to evaluate and synthesize information from various sources.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely.
- Reliability: Proven track record of reliability and punctuality in academic or professional settings.
- Attention to Detail: High level of attention to detail in conducting research and preparing reports.
- Time Management: Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience: Previous experience in conducting systematic reviews.
- Technical Skills: Familiarity with reference management software (e.g., EndNote, Zotero) and data analysis tools.
- Interest: A keen interest in media psychology and understanding how people interact with information on the internet.
- Collaboration: Experience working in collaborative research environments.
