Description

Role

Leicester Kidney Lifestyle Team (LKLT) are looking for a bright and enthusiastic early career researcher to conduct and analyse qualitative interviews with kidney patients and healthcare professionals across primary and secondary care settings. The role will contribute to bridging the gap between evidence-based interventions and their implementation in real-world practice, through both data collection and analysis. The role will specifically look at methods and strategies to promote the systematic uptake of the group’s research findings and other evidence-based interventions into routine practice; this is a key part of our Kidney Lifestyle Research Programme (KLRP).

The LKLT is a multidisciplinary group running a portfolio of clinical and laboratory studies investigating the biomedical, clinical and psychosocial effects of lifestyle interventions in patients with chronic kidney disease; our research explores the mechanisms underlying these effects, and develops and tests strategies for implementing interventions in clinical practice. Our team has nationwide and international collaborations and boasts exciting opportunities for disseminating work through international conferences and publications.

Duties and responsibilities

As part of the research team, you will be responsible for conducting qualitative interviews and assisting in the wider delivery of qualitative studies. You will collect, manage, analyse, and interpret research data in accordance with national and local governance protocols. Your role will include summarising key findings, maintaining accurate study documentation, and contributing to publications such as journal articles, technical papers, and book chapters.

You will also support dissemination efforts by participating in relevant workshops and conferences, and engage positively in knowledge exchange to maximise the impact of the research. The post-holder will be expected to manage their workload effectively, prioritising tasks and adapting to evolving project requirements. You will work closely with external collaborators including the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, the Diabetes Research Centre, the Leicester Biomedical Research Centre, and colleagues at Bangor University. A commitment to your own professional development is encouraged, and you will have access to relevant training opportunities to support this.

Skills and experience

Applicants must hold a degree or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline, along with demonstrable experience in qualitative research and data analysis. A sound understanding of NHS research ethics, along with familiarity with clinical trials and the delivery of digital health interventions, is essential. The successful candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong IT competency, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. High levels of accuracy, confidentiality, and professionalism are also key attributes for this role.

Desirable qualifications include a PhD (or working towards one), experience in healthcare environments, and familiarity with implementation science methodologies. Experience engaging stakeholders, delivering community-based interventions, and using statistical or qualitative analysis tools would be advantageous. A current UK driving licence is also desirable due to the need to travel across various research sites.

Location
Cross site, Leicester General Hospital, Glenfield Hospital and University of Leicester campus
