We are seeking to appoint a talented and enthusiastic Graduate Careers and Employability Information Intern. Student Futures is LJMU’s Careers, Employability & Enterprise Service. We provide a diverse range of services, experiences, opportunities & resources directly to students & graduates, designed to transform their skills & mindset, career agility and future success.

As first point of contact for our Careers Zones, the Careers & Employability Information Intern offers a warm welcome, skilful triage of students' interests & needs and connection to the right services, resources & opportunities for them. You will act as an ambassador for student employability and the Student Futures department, its mission and services. You will be adept in supporting others to navigate our online tools & resources.

Duties and responsibilities
You will be the first point of contact at our Careers Zone at Byrom Street, receiving support when needed from staff in the Careers Zone at the Student Life Building. You will offer a professional and friendly point of welcome, triaging student needs and providing tailored and informed information, connection to resources and onward signposting. The role also involves carrying out the following tasks:

  • Booking students and graduates into appointments via the university CRM system.
  • Answering telephone calls, answering emails to shared inboxes including studentfutures@ljmu.ac.uk and staffing Live Chat interactions.
  • Promoting the benefits of Student Futures’ services, opportunities and events and engaging and motivating students to invest in their careers during and after their university time.
  • Valuing and respecting the diversity of our students’ background and adjusting support and information taking into account cultural differences and prior career history.
  • Under the direction of Employability Services Manager, you will source job and placement opportunities, track internships and place jobs on our Careers Zone 24/7 job boards and approve jobs for advertisement. You will work with Student Ambassadors and Graduate Contact Centre Call Handlers.
  • In liaison with the Digital Services and Engagement Manager, you will contribute to social media campaigns and work across other campaigns to support wider events and promotions.

Skills and experience
Essential Factors

:• 5 GCSEs at grades A* – C or equivalent qualification.
• An LJMU Degree in any discipline.
• A demonstrable understanding of issues related to the student experience. 
• An awareness of the needs of a diverse student population. 
• Demonstrable customer service experience. Able to explore a client’s preferences & needs and connect them to the right information, service or opportunity. 
• A high level of professionalism. Able to demonstrate a high level of professionalism in representing a service. 
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.• Highly organised. An ability to multi-task whilst remaining focussed. Prioritise and manage time effectively to meet deadlines and targets.• Able to work confidently & effectively with little supervision.
• Excellent all-round office, administrative, IT and AI skills. Proficient in use of Microsoft Office applications, especially Word, Excel and Outlook.
 
Desirable Factors:
• Recent experience of working with students in a professional capacity.
• Relevant professional qualification in careers advice and/or coaching such as: Qualification in Careers Guidance (QCG); Postgraduate Diploma in Careers Guidance (DipCG); AGCAS Diploma in Career Education, Information and Guidance in HE (CEIGHE); or a coaching qualification at postgraduate level.
• Familiar with careers -, employability- and/or enterprise-specific software packages (e.g. CareerHub; Abintegro; TARGETconnect; Abyasa; InPlace)
