Are you passionate about helping students and graduates succeed in their careers?

Join our dynamic Student Futures Team at Teesside University as a Student Futures Navigator. This role supports our enquiry service, promotes available support, and plays an active part in delivering impactful projects and events. You will be the first point of contact for students in our Student Futures/Unitemps lounge in the Student Life Building.

We are not fixed on candidates having work experience, but you must enjoy helping fellow students and be committed to delivering an excellent student experience. This role will offer the opportunity to gain practical experience in a Higher Education setting. You will have the opportunity to enhance your organisational, administrative, and communication skills as well as work with a supportive team dedicated to student and graduate success.

The successful candidates will be responsible to the Student Futures Information Assistant and provide assistance with signposting students to our relevant resources, events and other members of the team, relating to issues such as CV guidance, interview preparation, volunteering and placements that make a meaningful impact on the career development of students and graduates.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Working under the direction of Student Futures staff provide first-line enquiry support for students and graduates.
  • Schedule appointments with members of the Student Futures team on behalf of students and graduates.
  • Support the effective marketing and promotion of the Student Futures resources and events.
  • Support the delivery of Student Futures events.
  • Support the Student Futures team with general office and administration and research tasks
  • Contribute your student voice and feedback to help shape the Student Futures offer.
  • Adhere to the University’s Health and Safety Policy and guidelines.
  • Promote Equality and Diversity for staff and students.

Skills and experience

  • Excellent customer service skills to listen carefully and respond promptly to customers asking for assistance.
  • Ability to relate and communicate well to a diverse range of staff and students.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment, supporting colleagues in need of additional help.
  • Able to work without continuous supervision dealing with day-to-day issues, following practical training
  • Able to convey information in a clear and accurate manner both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to evaluate services and contribute to service improvement initiatives.
  • Ability to make independent decisions but understand when to ask colleagues for support.
  • Ability to establish basic facts by carrying out appropriate enquiries and record basic data or information.
  • Ability to deal with individuals showing signs of distress, to calm, reassure and where necessary and appropriate, initiate action by referring to others.
  • An interest in careers and the world of work.
  • Able to take instruction from others and work to agreed standards whilst meeting deadlines.
