Description
Role
The University of Leicester are seeking a creative and technically proficient Digital Content Creator to join our team in the Department of Population Health Sciences. This role supports the Paediatric Intensive Care Audit Network (PICANet), a high-impact, international audit initiative collecting data on children admitted to paediatric intensive care units across the UK and the Republic of Ireland.
You will contribute to improving PICANet’s visibility and engagement through compelling visual and written digital content. With a strong eye for design and clear communication, you will help enhance our public-facing materials, digital branding and stakeholder communications. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to use their design expertise in a research-driven, socially impactful environment.
Duties and responsibilities
As Digital Content Creator, you will lead the refresh of PICANet’s branding and develop a range of new digital content. This includes designing PowerPoint templates, infographics, website content and social media assets. You will create lay summaries and clear communications for a variety of audiences, including families, charities, professionals and academic stakeholders.
You will also produce templates for reports and outreach materials, supporting both immediate needs and long-term communication strategies. Your work will include contributing to the research impact agenda through knowledge exchange and external engagement, including attending national meetings and conferences.
As part of your professional development, you’ll be encouraged to pursue learning opportunities, build collaborative networks, and provide guidance to research staff and students within the team. You’ll manage your time effectively and adapt to the evolving priorities of the project in a flexible and self-directed manner.
Skills and experience
The ideal candidate will hold a professional qualification or possess significant experience in digital design. You should be proficient in using key design software such as Adobe InDesign, Illustrator or Photoshop, and familiar with graphic design platforms like Canva. A strong portfolio demonstrating your ability to create high-quality graphics that simplify and communicate complex scientific concepts will be essential.
You will also need to demonstrate evidence of written contributions to academic or technical outputs, such as peer-reviewed journal articles or equivalent reports. Excellent communication skills—both written and verbal—are critical, as you will be expected to convey information clearly to a wide range of audiences including families, professionals and researchers.
We are looking for someone who is comfortable working both independently and collaboratively as part of a research team. You will have the ability to work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, adapt to shifting priorities, and manage your time effectively. A willingness to continue developing your subject expertise and engage in professional growth is highly valued.
In addition, candidates who have an understanding of research impact and experience in enhancing or evaluating research influence will be particularly well suited to this role.
