Role
The post holder will be responsible for the provision of specialised advice and information to international students during their studies through appointments, drop-in sessions and emails.  Additionally, the purpose of this role is to enhance the level of support offered to international students to ensure an excellent student experience at the University of Northampton.

Duties and responsibilities

To provide specialist immigration advice at OISC level 1 to international students, including entry clearance applications and visa extensions

To issue Certificate of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) for prospective and continuing students 

To support the University’s Tier 4 visa renewal service

To maintain an up-to-date knowledge of relevant UKVI policy and practice, and the provision of advice on Tier 4 and student visitor visas, through attending relevant external training events 

To assist in maintaining confidential enquiry records and case-notes in line with OISC and UKCISA codes of practice and logging onto internal systems in accordance with agreed procedures

To support the University’s Meet and Greet Services for International Students

To assist with the organisation and delivery of the International Student Orientation Programme

To update the content of the International Student Support web pages, NILE site and International Student Handbook

To deliver workshops and presentations on immigration issues for students and staff

To liaise with appropriate external groups and organisations as necessary, including UKCISA and UKVI

To work closely with colleagues in the ISSS team to support the University’s compliance with its Tier 4 Sponsor License responsibilities

To liaise with departments across the institution, including Students’ Union/Chaplaincy/Residential life team to ensure a range of social activities are available for international students throughout the year

Skills and experience

Good IT skills with a working knowledge of MS-Office systems, equipment, processes and procedures

Good written and oral communication skills

Excellent attention to detail

An understanding of issues which may affect international students

A well-developed understanding of cultural issues

An awareness of issues relating to confidentiality

A good understanding of key issues in international higher education

Ability to handle competing demands and to effectively prioritise workloads

Experience of preparing information for students, in a variety of formats e.g. leaflets, handbook & online

Ability to undertake group presentations

Active participation in teams, working groups and committees

Ability to review service delivery and make suggestions for enhancement and to highlight areas of concern

Ability to adapt to organisational change

Ability to adapt to technological advances in the workplace

Excellent communication skills, able to communicate information to students/colleagues in a clear and concise manner

Excellent interpersonal skills
