THE ROLE

Working with Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) on a Collaborative Enhancement Project (CEP), De Montfort University is undertaking an overview of the support available for staff in meeting the learning needs of international students.  

DMU, the University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Wolverhampton is undertaking an audit that focuses upon pedagogical support available to staff to successfully support positive student outcomes and student experience for international students. 

The project team is seeking to recruit a research assistant to support the evaluation of existing staff development resources; the development of an evaluative framework and production of a co-created toolkit, to support revised approaches to pedagogy and student support.  

The role will be working on a hybrid basis and the start date will be August 2025 until March 2026. The total amount of hours for this project will be 170 hours.

Duties and responsibilities

  • You will engage in project team meetings to help plan the project and associated activity. 

  • You will participate in workshops and help support the organisation of these across the partner institutions. 

  • You will support the review of existing resources from across all partner universities. 

  • Building on the review, you will support development of an evaluative framework. 

  • You will assist in the development of a staff development toolkit. 

  • You will peer-review projects outputs, including conference presentations, briefing papers for academic staff, an action plan, and a final project report. 

  • You will engage in relevant training and development, alongside mentoring opportunities, in order to develop your project management, research and dissemination skills. 

  • Perform any other duties commensurate with the job grade as reasonably required from time to time. 

Skills and experience

A relevant postgraduate degree. 

Knowledge or experience of the international student experience 

Ability to network effectively with staff and students  

Prior involvement in research 

Ability to communicate research findings with a range of different audiences 

Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team. 

An understanding of research methods 

Strong organisational and administrative skills, including liaising with the project team 

Ability and experience of working to deadlines and to manage multiple tasks 

Ability to work effectively in a team to achieve the goals of the project. 

Be committed to equality and diversity within the workplace and across the research project. 

Willingness to develop own skills as a research assistant.
