Description
Role
The Department of Education Studies is recruiting a Research Assistant to support a new research study: ‘Becoming dad: exploring the concept of patrescence in postpartum fathers.’ The study is funded by the British Academy and is in collaboration with the organisation Dad Matters. It will be the first empirical study of patrescence in the UK and will capture the in-depth experiences of new dads and professionals who work with fathers during the first 1001 days of their child’s life.
The role is particularly suited to Postgraduate Research students undertaking qualitative research in the fields of education, applied sociology, psychology (or any other related discipline). However candidates with a relevant masters degree and research experience will be considered.

Duties and responsibilities
The post-holder will be expected to assist with the preparation and execution phases of the project. Duties will include:
- Preparing the ethics application and associated documentation
- A rapid review of the academic literature
- Recruitment of participants
- Conducting online qualitative interviews
- Processing interview transcripts and data analysis
Skills and experience
Essential:
- Postgraduate qualification in education or a relevant field (e.g., applied sociology, psychology)
- Experience of conducting qualitative interviews and data analysis
- A high level of autonomous working capabilities, including with regard to reviewing literature
- Excellent communication, organisation and IT skills
Desirable:
- Knowledge of topics related to fatherhood, paternal mental health, or parenting
Location
On campus desirable / hybrid working would be considered
