Role

The Learning & Teaching Academy is seeking an intern to help audit, review, and support Heriot Watt's learning, teaching, and employability provision. This role offers an exciting opportunity to enhance this provision with new guides, webpages and resources to support lecturers and tutors across academic Schools and subject areas.
 
In addition, the Intern will undertake evaluation work of existing support and events. The intern will also conduct a preliminary literature review of active learning and employability sources such as journal papers, books, and reports. All will be instrumental in providing a foundation for the University to launch its new Strategy 2035.

This internship is expected to run for six weeks from June 23rd until August 1st. This role will be around 25 hours per week, however, we also welcome applications from students who are restricted to working 20 hours per week.

Duties and responsibilities

 
  • Undertake a comprehensive pilot audit of current employability provision across two academic Schools. 
  • Identify effective employability practice as well as gaps, challenges and opportunities for improvement in HWU's employability offering. 
  • Evaluate and research the Escape Rooms in Education Showcase. 
  • Review and test challenge-based learning resources. 
  • Conduct preliminary literature reviews and prepare an annotated bibliography of results. 
  • Prepare a summary report of findings and key recommendations from the project. 
  • Undertake any other related duties for the Learning & Teaching Academy.

Skills and experience

  • Must be a registered undergraduate or taught postgraduate student at Heriot-Watt University during the internship period. 
  • Understand the key principles of learning, teaching, and employability to support student academic development. 
  • Proven track record of maintaining attention to detail and respecting confidentiality in all aspects of work. 
  • Proven track record of working successfully both independently and as part of a team.
