Role

Unitemps are recruiting for a Researcher for the Bartlett School. This role is for an early June start date and has a projected end date of July 31st 2025. This is a part time role at 14.6 hours per week. Payment is set at £18.88 per hour + holiday pay. This role will be remote (homebased) working.

About the Project

The influence of lobbying on climate policy is critical but often opaque—posing a significant challenge to effective climate action. To address this, we are developing an innovative AI-powered platform designed to extract, analyse, organise, and visualise data on climate lobbying across Europe.As part of this project, we are seeking a Research Assistant to support human validation of large language model (LLM) outputs, ensuring the accuracy and interpretive quality of AI-generated insights on lobbying activity.

Duties and responsibilities

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyse and validate AI-generated outputs related to lobbying activities in EU climate policy.
  • Identify and interpret nuanced positions of diverse stakeholder groups (industry, NGOs, think tanks) on policy proposals.
  • Contribute to thematic coding and qualitative analysis of organisational statements, particularly regarding the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).
  • Potentially engage with overlapping areas, such as the Eco-Design Directive.
  • Use qualitative analysis software (e.g. MaxQDA, NVivo) for content organisation and insights extraction.

Skills and experience

Essential Requirements

  • At least graduate degree (or currently enrolled in a relevant programme and close to end of studies) in environmental policy, political science, sustainability, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of climate policy and EU environmental governance.
  • Ability to discern subtle differences in organisational policy preferences.
  • Excellent analytical and written communication skills.• High attention to detail and ability to work independently.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with qualitative thematic analysis software such as MaxQDA or NVivo.
  • Understanding of stakeholder dynamics in EU policy-making.
  • Familiarity with the EU CBAM process.
  • Interest in the intersection of AI and policy research.
