In October 2024, Equal Vision Merseyside completed phase 1 of its innovative project 'Addressing the Root Causes (ARC) of Mental ill-health'. This was desk based research comparing key social indicators to understand how Toxteth faired in relation to Liverpool and Nationally. Through mixed methods qualitative research, ARC phase 2 aims to document the lived experience of the structural inequalities identified in phase 1. ARC phase 2 commenced in February 2025 and is presently exploring the link between crime and poor mental health among young people in Toxteth. We would very much like for an intern to fulfil the role of research assistant role to offer support in the penultimate stage of this piece of working by offering support with tasks which may include data analysis, report writing, proofreading and dissemination planning. The ideal candidate would have an interest in addressing social injustice, and would have completed academic studies closely related to the social determinants of (mental) health, sociology, criminology.

Duties and responsibilities
1. In collaboration with the project manager and criminal justice intern, coordinate research activities.2. Critically review relevant academic literature in final report.3. Assist with the analyse of qualitative data and development of main findings.4. Contribute to dissemination of research through publication and presentation. 

5. Where appropriate, to help co-facilitate our fortnightly leaders’ group. 
6. To attend appropriate training opportunities.

Skills and experience
1. Achieved or working towards an undergraduate qualification in an area of social justice (e.g sociology, criminology, social science with closely related health crime component).2. An academic understanding of the social determinants of health, development needs of young people, social exclusion or discrimination.

3. A willingness to learn about and use data analysis instruments such as Nvivo. 
4. A commitment to equality of opportunity and the ability to creatively apply equal opportunity principles to service provision, volunteering and employment.
5. Very good organisation, communication and presentation skills, as well as basic computer skills, this will include a general understanding of the use of the electronic case management system.
