Description

Role

***ringfenced to level 4 and 5 LJMU School of Business students***

Are you passionate about making a difference in your community? Do you want to develop skills in problem-solving, leadership, communication, and civic engagement?  We are looking for up to ten enthusiastic level 4 or 5 (first or second year) undergraduate students in the Liverpool Business School to take part in a project to help us understand the issues that students care about.  We also want to learn how best we can help students to develop the skills and knowledge that they need to become engaged local and global citizens. If you can answer yes to both questions above, we would love you to apply for one of the roles in this project.  We know that students care about issues, both locally and globally, but often do not have the time, resources, knowledge or experience to do anything about them. That is why we are paying students for their time to take part and be empowered to make changes and improvements to their future communities.

Duties and responsibilities
If you are selected to take part in the project, we will expect you to attend one face-to-face group session on campus during the first two weeks of July.  The date will be decided based on applicant availability.  During the on-campus session, we will ask you to discuss your ideas and interests so that we can develop a structured plan of activity, including for example, guest lectures or workshops based on areas of interest. After the initial session, you will then work individually or in groups with an LJMU member of staff to support your activities and outputs. At the end of the project, you will take part in a reflective exercise including a survey and focus group. There will be as much flexibility as possible in your working hours, but you will need to commit to a completing twenty hours in total by the end of the project.

Skills and experience

This project is open to students registered on a first- or second-year undergraduate programme in the School of Business.

We are looking for students who can demonstrate:

(i) enthusiasm

(ii) a strong desire to make a difference to their community/communities (e.g. the university community, your programme community, the community where you grew up or live in, a sports community, the LGBTQ+ community, or any other community you identify with)

(iii) an open mind and respect for diverse perspectives

(iv) concern for people and the planet

(v) a willingness to share ideas and work collaboratively

(vi) reliability and commitment to all required sessions and outputs

Students of all backgrounds are encouraged to apply, and we particularly welcome applications from students who consider themselves to be from disadvantaged communities and/or underrepresented groups.

In your application, you must include a 250-word statement stating:

• why you are applying for this role

• any issues, causes and communities you care about

• any previous experience of engagement you have had with the above

• what you hope to contribute to this project

• what you would like to learn from this project
