Role
Warwick Food Group operates eating and drinking spaces across campus; for example, Café Library, District (at WBS), Eatwise Test Kitchen (in University House), NEXUS Café and Gibbet Hill Café, amongst others.
We are looking for a few individuals with experience of working in food service to support the current teams in the kitchens of some of the larger cafes. The roles will involve standard food service tasks such as cutting up items, preparing and cooking dishes to set recipes, serving the food to customers from counters, cleaning food service equipment and clearing rubbish in the Kitchens to maintain food hygiene standards.
Our Kitchens primarily operate Monday-Friday between 7am and 6pm. We are looking for individuals for a minimum commitment of 25 hours per week from as soon as possible until at least the end of August.
Duties and responsibilities
- Food preparation as required; this will involve standard tasks, such as cutting up items, cooking items under instruction and guidance.
- Traying/plating of food items as required, serving customers on food serveries, taking orders and checking for allergies or intolerances.
- Clean areas as required: wash up duties, ensuring high standards of cleanliness and adopt a ‘clean as you go’ approach to kitchen and service equipment in line with departmental Standing Operating Procedures.
- Assist with stock movement as required and in line with correct manual handling techniques and food safety storage.• Ensure compliance with:
- Departmental standards and legislation
- All food health and safety regulations including COSHH, Natasha’s Law, etc
- Maintain a safe working environment by observing Health & Safety Regulations and other relevant Food Hygiene legislation
Skills and experience
Essential
- Experience in a similar Kitchen role, some simple/basic cooking or food preparation experience
- Willing to be trained in Basic Food Hygiene (certificate), COSHH, Manual handling, Health & Safety, Fire Safety and Food Allergens.
- Ability to work in a team
- Good verbal communication skills
- Ability to follow written Standard Operating Procedures
- Ability to work to deadlinesDesirable
- Knowledge / working within the industry Kitchen, café, restaurants
Other Information
- Please note that Kitchens are fast-paced and often noisy environments, that can operate at very warm temperatures.
- You will be required to work with all kinds of food, including raw meat.
