Description

Role

The University of Leicester is seeking a motivated and friendly Front of House / Receptionist to support our Sport & Active Life department. This dynamic role is key in ensuring a welcoming environment for all users of our extensive sports facilities, including students, staff, alumni, and members of the public. As the first point of contact, you will play a crucial role in promoting our inclusive and inspiring community, helping us deliver impactful services in line with our values as Citizens of Change.

Duties and responsibilities

As a Receptionist, you will welcome users to the facility, manage bookings and payments, and provide accurate information about our services. You will handle memberships, offer facility tours, and maintain detailed financial records. The role also involves overseeing day-to-day health and safety operations, including acting as a designated first responder for emergencies in the swimming pool, sauna, steam room, and spa areas. Operational responsibilities extend across a broad range of facilities, from the gym and aerobics studios to outdoor pitches and courts. You may also be responsible for coordinating a small team during shifts, ensuring high service standards, effective scheduling, and performance monitoring.

You will engage with a variety of stakeholders including over 5,000 Sports Centre members, 1,500 Team Leicester club participants, internal staff and departments, and external sports groups. This is a highly collaborative role, requiring effective communication and a proactive approach to organisation and problem-solving.

Skills and experience

You will need five GCSEs at grade C or above (or equivalent) and prior experience working in a recreational or leisure environment. A strong understanding of health and safety policies is essential. The role demands excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a calm and organised manner in emergencies, and a passion for fitness and wellbeing.

Desirable qualifications include a current First Aid at Work certificate, NPLQ Lifeguard or Pool Attendant accreditation, and a Pool Plant Operators Certificate. Flexibility to work shifts is required, alongside high standards of presentation and a friendly, outgoing attitude.
