Description
Role
The Student Welcome and Induction team are responsible for ensuring that new students joining UCL receive a positive and consistent experience that provides strong foundations for them to undertake their studies and make the most of their time at UCL.
During and before the Welcome Period the Student Welcome and Induction Team hold webinars and talks for new students at UCL. These cater to new international, undergraduate and postgraduate students. The talks are presented by current students and provides the opportunity for new students to ask questions and learn more about UCL before the start of their programme.
Duties and responsibilities
As a Welcome Presenter, you’ll be delivering talks to more than 500 new students at UCL.
You’ll have a range of talks you can deliver:
- International Student Pre-Arrival Webinars in August and December.
- International Q&A Talks in September and January.
- A Students’ Guide to UCL Talks in September and October.
As a Welcome Presenters you should feel confident in providing an engaging and memorable experience for all attendees and answering questions about their experience at UCL.
- To support the Student Welcome and Induction team to deliver A Students’ Guide to UCL talks and/or International Welcome Webinars and Q&A talks.
- Work with other presenters to provide an engaging and consistent experience for all attendees.
- Attend training in advance of Welcome Week.
- Respond to emails and admin requests promptly.
- Maintain professional punctuality and timekeeping.
Skills and experience
- Must be studying for a degree at UCL. This can be at undergraduate or postgraduate level.
- Experience of public speaking.
- Knowledge of UCL services across the organisation (e.g. Student Support and Wellbeing Services, Library Services, Careers, Student Funding, Students’ Union)
- Good verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Present complex information clearly and in an engaging manner.
- Ability to adapt to technical or logistical difficulties on the day.
- Ensure accurate timekeeping particularly in delivering presentations.
- Experience of collaborating in teams to prepare and deliver engaging presentations.
