Description
Role
To act as part of a student team, representing all of Warwick’s faculties at all levels of study, to develop and promote the Library and its services and to support Library initiatives and campaigns.
This is an opportunity for you to share your experience and to use your skills to help us co-create, improve and deliver a Library service which enriches and supports all our users’ experience. You will have the opportunity to support a wide range of projects and events, working with teams across the Library. Examples might include:
- Participating in User Experience (UX) projects with Library Staff to embed student voice in our service development. This might involve user testing processes and systems, engaging in focus groups or short interviews or providing feedback from your peer group / own experience and projects could cover any/all aspects of the Library service and spaces.
- Creating or co-creating engaging media content for the Library, such as social media posts, web copy, vlogs or photographs.
- Supporting events such as regular community events in our Library spaces, or Library presence at Open Days or high profile ‘one-off’ events such as 60th Anniversary Celebrations. At these you may be asked to set up and clear merchandise and promotional materials, engage with attendees about the Library and Library services, manage refreshments, and gather feedback.
Due to the nature of this role, we cannot guarantee regular weekly hours. Depending on your availability, we may offer about 1-2 hours work per week in term time.
There may not be any work to offer you during vacations.
Duties and responsibilities
- Participate in Library focus groups, surveys, and other similar activities initiatives
- Assist in gathering data for UX (User Experience) projects involving library users.
- Contribute to our social media and other communications platforms
- Gather and record student feedback as required
- Provide support (e.g. by engaging with attendees, setting up, clearing) at Library events and with campaigns
- Adopt approachable and inclusive behaviours with all Library users encouraging participation and engagement with projects and events and being proactive in opening conversations.
- Answer students’ questions honestly, as informed by your own experience, providing accurate information and signposting.
- Take an active role in online events, as needed.
- Be a positive role-model and support for others, adhering to guidelines for good conduct and best practice set out in training and university policies, such as Dignity at Warwick.
- Attend all essential training, and be proactive in communicating with Library staff
- Engage positively with new events and initiatives, sharing your own ideas to develop Library services
- Assist with other tasks (e.g. clerical tasks) as required and as commensurate with the grade.
Skills and experience
- University of Warwick Student for the 25/26 Academic Year (including UG, PGT and PGR students)
- Passion for libraries and library work
- Enthusiasm to enhance the experience of Library users
- Excellent interpersonal skills, being confident to engage positively with any Library user or other university member as appropriate
- Be understanding and empathetic
- Have excellent time management and team working skills.
- Be familiar with student lifecycles and common challenges, and able to provide guidance and signposting on a range of academic or pastoral matters.
- Be willing and able to provide contributions to social media, or other relevant media and comms.
- Be able to work shifts at a range of times and locations.
Location
Working across campus but primarily in the Main Library and PG Hub. Some work is also likely to be online (e.g. on MS Teams) and using a range of social media platforms.
