Description

Role

The Stoneygate Centre for Empathic Healthcare was recently awarded NIHR funding for three undergraduate internships. Each internship post is for eight weeks and includes limited funding for travel, accommodation, and training.

The successful interns will act as research assistants, working under the supervision of Post-Doctoral Researchers at the Stoneygate Centre for Empathic Healthcare, Dr Amber Bennett-Weston and Dr Leila Keshtkar. Each intern will:

1.Work on one project related to empathy in healthcare, which may include a quantitative systematic review looking at the relationship between empathy and practitioner wellbeing, a qualitative systematic review exploring why empathy declines during postgraduate medical training, a study to develop and test a patient-reported empathy scale, or a cross-sectional study (that comprises part of a larger, longitudinal study) exploring students’ experiences of an empathy-focused curriculum at Leicester Medical School. Each intern will be allocated a project depending on their experience and the stage the project is at. These projects usually lead to publications, with the students named as authors on the publications, although we cannot guarantee this.

2.Be supported by Dr Amber Bennett-Weston and Dr Leila Keshtkar to develop their own skills and experience through mutually agreed, personalised training plans. This may include attending training on particular research methodologies.

By the end of the internship, the successful candidates will have begun to establish themselves as future health and care researchers. Working as part of a dynamic and experienced team with expertise in empathy, patient involvement, and health professions education, they will be exposed to diverse research methodologies.

Working hours:  37.5 hours per week, Monday-Friday
