Description

Role

Are you passionate about enhancing the quality of healthcare through compassion and communication? The University of Leicester invites experienced healthcare professionals to join our sessional pool of facilitators delivering empathic healthcare training. This rewarding and flexible role is an opportunity to inspire fellow clinicians and support the development of more patient-centred, emotionally intelligent care across the healthcare system.

Based within the Stoneygate Centre for Empathic Healthcare at Leicester Medical School, you will be part of a dynamic and committed team delivering training across a range of settings, including online platforms, University venues, and external healthcare organisations throughout the UK. Each half-day session includes preparation time and is recognised as a six-hour contribution. This role offers a unique chance to contribute to a national training initiative that reflects the University’s values of inclusion, inspiration and impact.

Duties and responsibilities

As an Empathic Healthcare Training Facilitator, you will be responsible for the preparation and delivery of high-quality, interactive training sessions that support healthcare professionals in developing more empathetic and effective communication with patients. Training delivery will take place both online and in-person, depending on the needs of commissioning organisations.

You will be expected to prepare thoroughly for each session by reviewing course materials and familiarising yourself with the training content in advance. As part of your ongoing development, you will be invited to attend facilitator training and development events organised by the Stoneygate Centre. There will also be opportunities to contribute to the evolution of the training programme through involvement in content development and programme evaluation.

Some travel beyond Leicester will be required for face-to-face delivery, and all travel expenses will be reimbursed. You will work closely with the Centre’s Director of Education and Training, as well as administrative colleagues, and will maintain regular communication with fellow facilitators to ensure a consistent and high-quality learning experience for all participants.

Skills and experience

We are looking for an enthusiastic, empathetic and skilled healthcare professional with a strong clinical background and a genuine interest in education. You must hold a primary medical or healthcare degree and be currently registered with the General Medical Council or another appropriate regulatory body. You should also be in active clinical practice and have substantial experience in teaching or facilitation, with a proven ability to lead both small and large group learning sessions confidently.

You will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional development, including recent engagement in educational appraisal and revalidation. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, alongside a clear ability to reflect on your own strengths and limitations as an educator.

It would be advantageous to have an understanding of adult learning theory and its application in healthcare education, as well as familiarity with diverse teaching methods. The ability to act as a mentor or supervisor to other facilitators would also be welcomed. Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners or an equivalent professional body is desirable.

Location
Training will take place at a range of venues, including the University of Leicester, online, or on-site with organisations across the UK
