Role

Unitemps are recruiting for a Research Officer. This role is suitable for current doctoral students, recent doctoral graduates and others with a completed Masters degree in a social science-related area. This role is for a June 9th start date and has a projected end date of Marcg 31st 2026. Payment is set at £18.88 per hour + holiday pay. This role will be hybrid working with part from campus and part from home.
 
We are recruiting a Research Officer (RO) to join the project Building climate knowledge ecosystems for policymaking in Kenya and Tanzania. This is a one-year British Academy funded project led by University College London (UCL), in partnership with Dar Es Salaam University College of Education and Kenyatta University. 
 
The project aims to generate effective knowledge uptake in climate policy through involving academics and local communities in participatory policy-making processes. It focuses specifically on the environmental challenges of coral and mangrove restoration in Tanzania, and eucalyptus monoculture in Kenya.

Duties and responsibilities

The RO will contribute to several aspects of the project, including:

  • Conducting a literature review on evidence-based policy and participatory action research
  • Supporting the principal investigator and coinvestigators in data analysis and report writing
  • Liaising with the Tanzania and Kenyan teams and participatory action research groups
  • Providing logistical coordination of workshops and dissemination events
  • Communications and media engagement

Skills and experience

  • The post is open to current doctoral students, recent doctoral graduates and others with a completed Masters degree in a social science-related area. 
  • Candidates must have the right to work in the UK. 
  • Job share will be considered. 
  • Most of the work can be conducted remotely, but some meetings and events will be held in person at UCL.

UCL; hybrid working (part from home and part from the office)
