Role

Unitemps are recruiting for a Research Assistant – Predictive Data Dashboards for Neonatal Care within the Population, Policy & Practice Dept department. The role is to work the date of 19th May 2025 and will run until 31st July 2025 part time at 18 hours per week . Payment is set at £18.18+ holiday pay per hour and the role will be HYBRID based.

The Research Assistant will join the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health (GOS ICH), within the Population, Policy and Practice (PPP) department. PPP conducts cutting-edge research to improve child health outcomes, with a strong focus on global health, data science, and implementation research. This project, funded by the UCL Grand Challenges initiative, aims to strengthen neonatal care in low-resource settings by developing predictive dashboards that integrate real-time clinical and operational data, supporting frontline healthcare workers in Malawi and Zimbabwe.

Duties and responsibilities
The Research Assistant will play a key role in supporting the design, implementation, and evaluation of interactive dashboards for neonatal care. 

Main duties include:
  • Preparing and cleaning clinical and operational data for analysis
  • Supporting the integration of predictive analytics models (e.g., Prophet forecasting and classification algorithms)
  • Assisting in the design and testing of an intuitive, user-centred dashboard interface.
  • Contributing to documentation and training materials for clinical teams.
  • Supporting usability testing, clinician engagement, and gathering feedback to refine the tool.

The role is ideal for someone with a strong data science or computer science background who is interested in applied global health research.

Skills and experience
Essential:

  • Strong background in data science, computer science, or a related field (Master’s level or advanced undergraduate).
  • Experience with Python or R for data analysis and predictive modelling.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.- Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with data visualisation/dashboard tools (Metabase, or similar)
  • Experience working with healthcare data.
  • Interest in global health, clinical decision-support systems, or implementation science.
  • Familiarity with user-centred design principles.
