Description

Role

The intern will collaborate with UOL and Zeeko to experimentally develop metrology algorithm for measuring freeform optical surfaces.

Zeeko has established an Ultra-Precision Surfaces Laboratory at Space Park Leicester and is collaboratively run by UOL and Zeeko. The group has been awarded a Eureka SMART project titled "Super-polished Freeform Optical Systems (SFOS) for Industry and Nuclear Fusion." As part of this project, the University of Leicester (UOL) group is responsible for developing hybrid metrology techniques to measure freeform surfaces, with deflectometry being a key technology under development.

The intern will become familiar with the MATLAB algorithm that has been developed for this purpose. This bespoke software has demonstrated functionality and achieved the required accuracy. To enhance its usability and robustness, the intern will gain a thorough understanding of both the principles of deflectometry and the underlying programming logic. Additionally, they will ensure that the software is well-annotated for ease of use and future modifications. As part of this process, metrology experiments are expected to be conducted to support the software's development.
