Future Yard is a Community Music Venue & Sector Skills Hub in Birkenhead and was established to think about music differently; as a transformative opportunity. Future Yard looks to reimagine a music venue as a learning resource, a space for young people to embark on career pathways within the live music industry. Our Soundcheck programme introduces young people to the range of job roles and skills they need to make a career in the Live Music Industry. This is delivered within a working live music venue, programming touring artists from around the world alongside local emerging talent. For more information see www.soundcheck.futureyard.org We are looking for an individual to lead a social research project, investigating the long term impact of our Sound Check programme on careers and lives of the 300+ participants who have taken part in the programme over the past four years. Through this project we are keen to establish the impact of the programme on both the participants personally, alongside their employability, and career development. What are the alumni doing now? Have they secured any paid employment as a direct result of doing Sound Check? Did they access any further training? Did the course increase their awareness of careers in the sector and are they still working in live music? Did the course help to increase their confidence and well-being?
Duties and responsibilities
Working alongside our Head of Skills & Learning, over a period of roughly 10 weeks (100 hours) the project coordinator will be responsible for co-designing the project, undertaking the research and reporting the findings. The research will include questionnaires, surveys, interviews and the subsequent analysis and presentation of the data gathered. The principle objective is to establish and demonstrate the impact of the Sound Check course, identifying its strengths and any areas that can be improved.
Skills and experience
We are looking for a candidate who has a passion for live music and its power to improve the lives of local people. Ideally, they will have some relevant experience or knowledge of social research through their studies.
- Strong communication skills and an ability to comfortably interact with people across a range of age groups and backgrounds.
- Excellent organisational skills and an eye for detail.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to present research findings in a professional manner, tailored to various audiences.
