Description

Role

Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to gain practical experience in a vibrant and diverse higher education environment? The University of Leicester’s English Language Teaching Unit (ELTU) is seeking enthusiastic and proactive individuals to join us as International Short Programmes Assistant for the 2025 intake.

This role will support the delivery of short international courses during the busy July–August period. Working closely with the Business Development Manager and wider administrative team, you will help ensure the smooth running of our engaging programmes for international students. This role provides a unique opportunity to work at a globally minded institution recognised for its inclusive culture and commitment to social impact.

Duties and responsibilities

You will play a key role in assisting with the organisation and delivery of the ELTU’s international summer programmes. Responsibilities include supporting course arrangements in collaboration with tutors, coordinators and programme leads, and liaising with suppliers to prepare events, social activities, and travel logistics. You will also be responsible for creating and distributing student information via platforms such as Blackboard and LINE, maintaining programme databases, and offering front-line student support including registration, orientation and general enquiries.

In addition, you will accompany students on excursions and airport transfers, contribute to the organisation of welcome and farewell events, and assist with the production of course reports and certificates. Flexibility is essential, as some evening and weekend work will be required to support social activities and trips.

Skills and experience

The successful candidate will have a minimum of five GCSEs (Grades A–C) or equivalent, and proven IT competence in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Experience of accurate record keeping and a customer-focused approach are also essential.

You will demonstrate a basic understanding of and empathy with the needs of international students, along with cultural awareness and strong interpersonal skills. We are looking for individuals who are confident working independently and collaboratively, possess excellent organisational and communication abilities, and are comfortable liaising with external partners and suppliers.

Desirable attributes include experience of studying or working in a university setting—particularly at the University of Leicester—and having lived or studied in a different country. Enthusiasm, flexibility and a proactive approach will be key to success in this role.
