Role
The Department of Economics is looking to appoint an experienced administrator to support the administration of the undergraduate teaching programmes within the Department to deliver an outstanding teaching and learning experience for all students.The post holder will be part of a large, busy team responsible for all aspects of undergraduate programme administration and for supporting students in navigating academic processes. 

Duties and responsibilities

  1. Provide detailed information and assistance to Economics students and students taking Economics modules about all aspects of undergraduate teaching programmes including: module registration, degree course regulations, student records, class scheduling and attendance, monitoring points, assessment submission, personal tutor system and exams.
  2. Lead the operation of high level administrative support for all aspects of student administration to ensure accurate student records, consistent with Departmental requirements. This includes diets, module registration, monitoring points, attendance at classes and tests, assessment management, temporary withdrawal and restart cases, and course transfers.
  3. Support the Programme Manager (UG) in maintaining and developing consistent teaching and learning related policies and procedures, and work to achieve a consistent approach to UG programme administration, proposing process and procedure improvements where appropriate.
  4. Provide high level administrative support to assist in the exams process, including contributing to exam board preparation and marks management, as well as working as part of the wider exam team on ensuring the end to end exams process runs smoothly.
  5. Act as the assistant secretary to the Undergraduate Management Committee (UMC), preparing and drafting agenda, drafting discussion papers, recording accurate minutes and taking responsibility for following up on action points. Advising and briefing the Chair, Secretary and committee on strategic and operational areas within remit.
  6. Manage with the operation of the undergraduate assessment process, monitoring of submissions, liaising with academic staff on marking, checking all marks are returned, compiling generic feedback reports and releasing marks and feedback to students.
  7. Manage with University’s .
  8. Support the smooth running of student events, such as Open Days, Registration, Induction, Graduation Reception, and other social activities.
  9. Contribute to the editing of the departmental webpages.
  10. Support any other aspects of undergraduate programme administration as required. 

Skills and experience

  1. A good honours degree or significant experience working in a similar environment.
  2. Experience in identifying and implementing practical solutions to administrative problems.
  3. Excellent organisation skill with a high level of attention to detail. 
  4. Ability to work calmly under pressure.
  5. Experience of working in a multi-cultural environment with the ability to understand and emphasise with cultural sensitivities and their potential impact on the student experience. 
  6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and cooperatively within a team. 
  7. Well-developed organisational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, including the ability to design and develop administrative systems and processes.
  8. Good IT skills, although training will be given.
  9. An awareness of current HE issues.
