Role

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and organised Communications and Social Media Intern for a 30 day/six-week internship.

The LJMU intern will be joining the Corporate Communications team over the summer months to focus on two project areas: graduation and the induction/transition of new and returning students, at the beginning of the 2025/26 academic year.

 

The Communications and Social Media Intern will be responsible for helping the Corporate Communications team effectively position the university on social media with specific emphasis on growing and creating engaging content for LJMU’s TikTok and Instagram channels.

The intern will also be responsible for creating content and news items for the LJMU student webpages and student newsletter which can be shared over the summer period.

Duties and responsibilities

  1. Social media/ Content Creation

 

  • Monitoring the LJMU social media accounts and providing reactive handling of direct messages, mentions and notifications.
  • Contributing ideas and content to build audiences on TikTok and Instagram channels to engage with a younger audience working alongside the Social Media and Content Coordinator, Student Content Creators and Recruitment Team.
  • Present on camera, interview, film and edit together content to go out across LJMU’s social media platforms.
  • Researching and monitoring key trends on social media and sharing with the wider comms team.
  • Researching other universities in the UK and sharing findings and ideas.
  • Assist/organise social media filming including sourcing interviewees, scheduling filming, writing briefs and creating storyboards.
  • Draft and publish dynamic content for university social media channels, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and Blue Sky with a focus on key audiences. 
  • Review and monitor engagement figures on social media to influence future content and best practice.
  • Attending key university events over the summer including the Students at the Heart Conference (18th and 19th June) and Graduation (7th – 11th July) to capturing content for social feeds.

 

 

Skills and experience

You should be an LJMU student or recent graduate.

Social media experience using LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and Blue Sky.Happy to present on camera.

High level of literacy and attention to detail.

Ability to multitask and work under pressure.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Enthusiasm and confidence in dealing with a wide range of people.Eager to learn and be trained up by colleagues.

Ability to work effectively alone and also as part of a team.

Professional attitude.

Passion for communications and social media.
