This opportunity is available for current University of Northampton students who will be based in the UK for the duration of the role.

The University of Northampton is looking to recruit a team of dynamic, proactive, and enthusiastic Student Career Coaches to work within the Student Futures department for the academic year 2025/26. 

As a Career Coach, you will be the first point of contact in the Student Futures Hub, providing invaluable career support to fellow students and recent graduates and acting as an ambassador for the University of Northampton.  As part of Student Futures, you will collaborate closely with all Student Futures teams. This collaboration will allow you to gain valuable knowledge of the careers and employability support that the university can offer students. 

Duties and responsibilities

Key Responsibilities: 

• Act as a welcoming and approachable point of contact for students who visit the Student Futures Hub face-to-face and online, engaging with them, signposting them to relevant resources, and triaging any specialist queries to the Careers and Employability Partners, Placements team and Unitemps.

• Delivering information in lectures to promote the Student Futures service.

• Representing Student Futures at events, open days, and discovery dates, involving promoting Student Futures to students, prospective students and parents.

• Coordinating careers and employability activities in the Student Futures Hub, in and around campus, including the Development Hub.

• Utilising the Student Futures Online Careers and Employability platform to help students navigate their careers and job search.

• Creating short information videos on various topics relating to the Student Future service.

• Increasing student involvement in the Future Ready Plan as part of the coaching interaction.

• Using a Customer Relationship Database to record student interactions and follow up with students to establish progress.

• Staying up to date with digital Careers resources and the more comprehensive University of Northampton Careers offer for students.  

• Supporting students in job searching, CVs, cover letters, supporting statements and prepping for interviews (Full Training will be provided).

• Updating print materials in the Student Futures Hub.

• Attend team meetings and training events.

• Appearing in and contributing to student-facing social media and other promotional projects & case studies.

Skills and experience

This role is open to all University of Northampton students enrolled on a course during the whole of the 2025/26 academic year and meets the following criteria:  

Essential: 

• Excellent communication skills and the ability to demonstrate active listening and the ability to ask clear and open questions to establish needs. 

• Have a proactive attitude when on shift in the Student Futures Hub and at Student Futures events.

• Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively and accommodate responsibilities alongside your studies.

• Be a strong team player who can work independently when required.

• Ability to confidently approach fellow students, engage them effectively, and promote relevant events, job opportunities and initiatives.

• Successful candidates will be required to provide consent to be featured on social media promotion of Student Futures and the Student Futures Hub, as well as promotion of other Careers & Employability Service-related events and activities. This activity may involve video, photography, or written content, such as sharing your tips with students, depending on the needs of the promotional activity. 

Desirable:

• Previous experience in a customer service-related role would be advantageous, although customer service training will be provided.

Please ensure your cover letter is no more than 600 words. 

Start Date: Monday 8th September 2025 (2 weeks before Welcome Week) 

Training: Successful candidates must be available to commence paid training from Monday, September 8th 2025, through Friday, September 19th 2025.

Hours: The hours for this role can vary depending on business needs. During quieter periods, a minimum of 6 hours per week is expected. However, during times of high demand, the hours could increase to as much as 12-14 hours per week. Typically, working hours are between 10 am and 4 pm, Monday through Friday, on a rotational basis with the team. Please note that you may be required to work additional hours during the initial training period to ensure you are fully prepared for the role. Additionally, there may be occasions when you are required to work outside of these core hours and days to support events and other high-demand activities.

Interviews will be held week commencing 2nd June (These will be face to face, however, online interview will be made available for those who have left the area of Northampton for Summer break)
