Role

Unitemps are recruiting for a Translation and Transcribing (Spanish to English) role. This is a part-time role at around 10 - 20 hours per week. This role is for an April 28th start date and has a projected end date of May 31st 2025. Payment is set at £21.68 per hour + holiday pay. This role will be fully remote working from home.

The postholder will be part of a research team led by Prof. Ayona Datta (PI), for a European Research Council (ERC) Advanced Grant - funded project, “Regional Futures: The territorial politics of digitalization-as-urbanisation in the global south”.

The project is conducting research in peri-urban municipalities of three rapidly growing metropolitan regions. It examines how digitalisation produces new territories for metropolitan urbanisation and how state and non-state actors are assisting, contesting and disrupting these regional futures. The project builds new theories and detailed empirical evidence of urbanisation as both a product and a producer of the ‘information revolution’ in the global south.

Duties and responsibilities

The work involves translating and transcribing around 43 audio files of interviews in Spanish. The interviews are between 1-2 hrs each and include both interviewee and interviewer voices. The Interviewees are state officials in a Mexican city and some others are lawyers, professional consultants and experts (all speaking in Spanish). The interviewers speak mostly in Spanish and sometimes in English. Sometimes there are multiple voices. The final output will be required in English word doc. A detailed instruction sheet will be provided for the transcription/translation. AI enabled translation/Transcription will not be accepted.

For each hour of audio tape translated the post holder will be paid 4 hours at the rate quoted, pro-rated to minutes. The entire work must be completed by 31 May 2025. Although there is some flexibility in this deadline, the postholder will not be paid extra if the work takes more time to complete. The person will need to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement before commencing the task.
