Digital exclusion is one of the most important issues facing low income and low ability households today. This role is an exciting opportunity for you to help with a Barnet project that is doing something about this.
This role will be part of a small but highly focused delivery team who work as part of Barnet Homes and Barnet Council’s employment and skills service called BOOST (www.boostbarnet.org)
We’ll help you to develop transferable skills you can take with you into the real world such as content creation, project planning, running workshops, managing volunteers, dealing with customers and delivering reports to managers
Our ideal candidate is someone who is passionate about helping people, is tech savvy and is a great communicator who understands the benefits of being online and can explain this to those most in need
You’ll get to deliver learning sessions, plan workshops, help run meetings and feedback to different audiences.
Duties and responsibilities
- Assist in delivering digital skills workshops and one-to-one support sessions
- Help residents navigate digital platforms, such as the NHS app, Barnet Council website, job seekers websites and other online services
- Provide patient and accessible guidance on basic digital tasks, including email and online safety
- Support the team with outreach, engagement, and promoting digital inclusion sessions
- Assist in creating simple guides and resources for residents
- Reflect on learning, contribute ideas and actively participate in team discussions
Skills and experience
Essential
- Interest in all things digital and internet and enthusiastic to communicate your passion to others
- Strong digital skills, including using apps, email and online services.
- Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills to support diverse community members.
- Ability to explain technology in a simple, patient and accessible way.
- Organised and proactive, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good with people, patient and non-judgemental
- Ability to explain concepts and ideas in a fun and engaging way to a variety of different audiences
- Comfortable working in a self-directed way as well as part of the team
- Ability to think creatively and outside the box
Desirable
- Studying in a relevant area such as digital marketing, IT, community development, social care, teaching
- Knowledge of digital inclusion challenges and accessibility needs
- Familiarity with common digital platforms, such as online banking and the NHS app
- A passion for digital inclusion and reducing the digital divide
- Experience with delivering presentations
