Role

oAn exciting opportunity for a student to work alongside an international research team; gaining hands-on experience and insight into active and real-world geoscience research.

oSupport the research group by creating visually appealing content that effectively communicates the exciting research being done in scientific offshore drilling as well as the experience of working offshore.

oWork closely with research, academic, and professional services staff to develop key skills in communications, outreach, event management and project management.

Working hours: 3-5 days a week, worked between 9-5 Monday-Friday

Duties and responsibilities
oCreating content for social media (TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn) and blog posts relating to our X501 New England Shelf Hydrogeology expedition

oLiaise with offshore staff to collect video, pictures and narrative content
oDevelop outreach and educational materials for our Replica Cores programme
oAssist in organising a ‘ship-to-shore’ event
oAssist in preparations for our Summer School programme

Skills and experience
Essential

oCreative mind set with the ability to produce engaging and original content
oStrong communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to communicate scientific and technical content to lay audiences
oSkills in video and photo editing and use of editing tools (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar)
oAn interest in science communication and outreach
 

Desirable

oAre studying for, or recently completed, a degree in geoscience or related subject

Location
In-person on the Central Campus, with the possibility of limited hybrid working

Duration: Hours and days: 3-5 days a week, worked between 9-5 Monday-Friday. You will be expected to work 12 weeks between 9 June and 5 September. Your preference on working hours within the above range can be discussed during the interview stage.
