Role
*Ringfenced to LJMU students*

 
The researcher will join an inter-disciplinary team of three academics from the School of Biological and Environmental Sciences, the School of Education and the Liverpool School of Art and Design, working on a collaborative project with zoo education teams to develop innovative approaches to zoo interpretation by considering decolonial principles in design processes.

Duties and responsibilities

The role will involve: 

identifying resources relevant to decolonial praxis in the conservation and zoo sector; supporting sharing of resources and good practice within a national network; assisting with audits of interpretation; coordinating organisation of a workshop/symposium; preparing workshop materials or presentations.

We are aiming for a start date of 19/05/2025 for around 8 weeks. There are 66 hours available per assistant role (132 hours in total), and remote working will be considered.

Skills and experience

Essential skills and experience required for this role are:

Familiarity with decolonial theory and praxis; 

An ability to support and facilitate communication within a (digital) national zoo network; 

Good project management skills;

Excellent communication skills and a professional attitude;

An ability to conduct independent research and strong self-motivatation; 

Excellent team-working skills;

Desirable experience:

Experience of archival organisation and cataloguing processes; 

An understanding of important principles of zoo education; 

Awareness of ecological and wildlife conservation issues.
