Role

Unitemps are recruiting for a Research Assistant within the Culture, Communication & Media department. The role is to work the date of 19th May 2025 and will run until 10th January 2026 part time at 5 hours per week . Payment is set at £19.32+ holiday pay per hour and the role will be HYBRID based.

The BBC Arena London Memory Map is an AHRC Knowledge Exchange funded-project for the 12-month period beginning on 24th March 2025. It commemorates the 50th anniversary of one of the most influential, innovative and longstanding art and culture programmes ever made for TV, and comprises an interactive digital map led by Dr Michael Hrebeniak (IoE) in association with BBC Archive Content & Partnerships. 
Using the Memory Map Toolkit, an open-source software developed by the Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis at the Bartlett School of Architecture, it will create a geohistorical filmic expression of the past 120 years across the city of London, mediated through place-specific associations with the work of cultural figures featured in Arena's programmes.
 
We are looking for a UCL student or graduate to serve as a Research Assistant and work with the team to create 50 embedded, cross-referenced clips of 3-minutes' duration with accompanying texts generated through the unique archival lens of Arena’s 700 films.

Duties and responsibilities
The Research Assistant will work closely with the Principle Investigator and the UCL/BBC Arena team on;

  • Content research
  • Writing
  • Editing
  • Digital reformatting
  • Uploading the material to the Memory Map site
  • Managing social media promotion

Skills and experience

  • Technical knowledge of film-making and editing
  • Demonstrable interest in arts TV documentary and cultural history
  • Advanced literacy skills
  • Ability to work both independently and within small teams, including in studio environments.
