Role
*Ringfenced to LJMU students studying Biological Sciences*
The research assistant will join Dr Nicola Koyama and Dr Patrick Tkaczynski in the School of Biological and Environmental Sciences, working on a Barbary macaque research project (https://www.plasticprimateslab.com/). The researcher will assist in our lab at Byrom Street analysing Barbary macaque faecal samples collected from wild groups in Morocco, across a gradient of anthropogenic disturbance, to identify faecal endoparasite eggs using faecal flotation methods and microscopy.
Duties and responsibilities
The role will involve - studying primate endoparasite egg ID guides and faecal flotation protocols to become familiar with techniques - undergoing training to become proficient in identifying - photographing and labelling images of macaque endoparasite eggs - calculating egg load in each sample- keeping meticulous and well organised records- providing weekly updates on progress in team meetings
We are aiming for a start date of 6th May 2025 and end date of 7th July 2025, running for 9 weeks with 14h per week but have flexibility in these dates and weekly hours. In total there are 126h per assistant and two research assistant positions available.
Skills and experience
