Role

We are looking for an experienced badminton coach to work collaboratively with the Warwick Sport Performance Team, ensuring the delivery of a high-quality, structured, and athlete-focused coaching programme. In this role, you will work closely with the Badminton Head Coach to support the development of the performance group and contribute to raising overall badminton standards and opportunities at the University.

This position offers an exciting opportunity for a dedicated badminton coach with a proven track record in elite-level coaching to play a key role supporting the continuation of high-level badminton at The University of Warwick.

This is a paternity cover temp role from Mid July 2025 – Mid August 2025 (depending on due date)

Working days/hours are: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday– 0800-1000 & 1200-1400, Wednesday – 1200-1400, Friday – 0800-1000 and 2 hours planning per week (18 hours per week in total)

Duties and responsibilities

Support Warwick Sport in the delivery of the mission, vision and objectives of Warwick Sport, including, supporting every performance athlete to achieve their full potential, increasing participation, significantly contributing to the staff and student experience, building communities and making a sustainable contribution.

Main responsibilities:

Coaching and Delivery

  • Work autonomously to provide the coaching and design of programmes for the performance element of the club on a weekly basis, to include any squads that are playing in the BUCs leagues
  • Ensure the preparation and performance of squads from a technical, tactical, physical and psychological perspective
  • In conjunction with strength and conditioning coaches, develop individual performance plans and athlete profiling mechanisms for all athletes in the performance squads
  • Work with performance group captains to provide all BUCs and other match day selection, coaching and tactical preparation to ensure optimum competition results are achieved
  • Plan and deliver small group sessions across the programme as appropriate to achieve set objectives
  • Work in tandem with support services including the Strength and Conditioning and Physiotherapy teams to ensure effective physical preparation where appropriate
  • Create a vibrant environment within the badminton performance programme that promotes and encourages innovation and engagement from its members

Strategic Performance and Partnerships

  • Maintain effective internal and external partnerships that will assist with the vision and strategy for badminton when needed

Departmental Relationships

  • To work in conjunction with the Sports Officer and other relevant members of the Student’s Union team to support, promote and publicise the badminton programme and wider Warwick Sport Programmes to the student community
  • To work closely with the Badminton Club and Warwick sport staff on supporting the performance of badminton

Marketing and Communications

  • Ensure all communications are high quality, effective and fit for purpose including relevant web content, newsletters and use of social media
  • To engage with social media to promote the badminton club

Finance budgets and reporting

  • Ensure the maintenance of badminton related stock
  • Update the performance sport manager weekly

Other

  • Ensure a safe environment for students to work in

Skills and experience

  • Prior badminton coaching knowledge
  • Have or working towards UKCC L2 (by the time of appointment)
