Role
*Ringfenced to LJMU students on Civil Engineering / Built Environment / Engineering courses*The candidate is expected to work closely with Dr. Michaela Gkantou and other colleagues in the School, as well as with external industrial partner Starship, on a project funded by the Higher Education Innovation Fund. The project, focuses on advancing modular construction, and aims to optimise modular structural systems and panels for enhanced sustainability and performance, while contributing to knowledge exchange with external organizations, enhancing the impact of the Faculty's research, and creating opportunities for future collaboration.

Duties and responsibilities
The candidate will focus on gathering data to calculate the embodied carbon of modular structures and conduct life cycle assessments for case studies on modular housing. They will also compile literature data on assembly and disassembly techniques for steel structures and modular construction. Additionally, the candidate will assist with lab testing and support the post-processing analysis of the resulting data. Regular meetings with the supervisor will be held to review progress. The candidate will also participate in relevant meetings, attend site visits, and write reports on their findings.

Skills and experience
The ideal candidate should be an undergraduate or postgraduate student in Civil Engineering/Built Environment/Engineering disciplines, with an interest in sustainable construction, civil and structural engineering, and modular construction. 

They should be responsible, and able to manage tasks independently. 
Good communication skills are essential, as well as the ability to meet deadlines. 
The candidate should have a solid understanding of engineering principles, a willingness to learn, and a commitment to the project's success.

If the student has assessments in the first two weeks of the specified period, they can be given flexibility to focus on studying during those weeks, with the option to make up the hours in other weeks. The total commitment is 200 hours over 12 weeks, averaging 2-3 days per week, as recorded on timesheets.
