Role
***ringfenced to Liverpool Business School Level 6 & 7 only***

The Lord Lieutenant (LL) who is appointed by the monarch is the King’s representative in the County of Merseyside (covering the 5 local authority districts of: Knowsley, Liverpool, St Helens, Sefton and Wirral).  He is supported by a Vice LL, ML Office, which has two paid staff and around 45 unpaid, volunteer Deputy Lieutenants (DLs) appointed by the LL. Although ML is not a business, public body or large charity, given its representative function, it has a duty to be purposeful and discerning in the way in which it communicates its role and services, maintaining at all times the dignity of the Crown.

Duties and responsibilities
The intern's primary responsibility will be to review and evaluate the Merseyside Lieutenancy's (ML) communications strategy with a focus on increasing awareness of the Lieutenancy's role and services within Merseyside. They will specifically assess how ML communicates the Honours system, focusing on making it more accessible and promoting the idea that nominations are open to everyone. The intern will analyse the current communication methods, including the website, social media, presentations and print materials and provide recommendations for improvements. They will also help identify key community groups that can act as intermediaries to reach a wider audience. In addition, the intern will assist in creating a targeted programme for presentations on the Honours system, contributing to a strategy for engaging the public, especially the younger generation (18-25-year-olds), with a focus on making the process more transparent and inclusive. The intern will work closely with ML staff and Deputy Lieutenants to deliver these tasks and will present their findings and recommendations at the conclusion of the internship.

Skills and experience
The ideal candidate for this internship will have a strong interest in marketing, communications or public relations, along with a keen understanding of how to engage with diverse audiences. They should possess excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to analyse and provide constructive feedback on existing marketing strategies. An understanding of social media and digital communication platforms as well as an ability to think creatively will be crucial in developing fresh approaches to promote the Honours system. The candidate should be comfortable working both independently and as part of a team demonstrating initiative and the ability to manage multiple tasks. Additionally, a passion for community engagement and a desire to make a positive impact on the public's perception of the Merseyside Lieutenancy will be important. The ability to work flexibly, including remotely and in the office and to engage with various stakeholders including community groups and organisations is essential.
