Role

We are looking for a talented and innovative Creative Assistant to join our team for the "Invisible Immigrant Food Entrepreneurs" project, funded by Higher Education Innovation Fund (HEIF 2024-25).

The Creative Assistant will play a crucial role in developing and executing creative content that highlights the stories and contributions of immigrant food entrepreneurs. This role involves working closely with the research team to create engaging visuals, multimedia content, and promotional materials.

The role will be held by a graduate, postgraduate or post-doctoral researcher.

Job Purpose

The primary purpose of this role is to support the research project by creating visually appealing content that effectively communicates the findings and stories of immigrant food entrepreneurs. The Creative Assistant will help bring the research to life through various creative mediums, enhancing the project's impact and reach.

Duties and responsibilities

Research and knowledge transfer

  • Develop and design visual content, including infographics, posters, and social media graphics.
  • Create multimedia content such as exhibition and documentary to showcase the stories of immigrant food entrepreneurs.
  • Collaborate with the research team to ensure content aligns with the project's objectives and findings.
  • Ensure all content is culturally sensitive and accurately represents the subjects.
  • Participate in regular team meetings and contribute to creative brainstorming sessions.
  • Provide creative input and feedback on various aspects of the project.

Skills and experience

Essential requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g. Graphic Design, Media Studies, Communications), or a related discipline.
  • Strong creative and design skills, with proficiency in design software (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite).
  • Experience in multimedia content creation, including video production and editing.
  • Excellent storytelling and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Cultural competence and sensitivity towards diverse backgrounds and experiences.

Desired requirements

  • A Master's degree or higher in a relevant field (e.g., Migration, Cultural studies, Media and Communication, Design, Heritage, Business and Enterprise studies)
  • Previous experience working in a creative role, particularly in projects related to social issues, community engagement, or cultural documentation.
  • Proficiency in multiple languages, especially those spoken by immigrant communities, to enhance communication and storytelling.
  • Strong understanding and sensitivity towards diverse cultural backgrounds and experiences.
  • A diverse and impressive portfolio showcasing a range of creative work, including visual design, multimedia content, and storytelling projects.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail in all creative work.
