Role
Duties and responsibilities
The Access Officer will work in a small team to organise and deliver our two residential summer schools as well as the student ambassador scheme and general office duties. See JD for specific information. Special working conditions
- The postholder is required to complete a DBS disclosure at enhanced level as a condition of employment.
- The team delivers some events in the evenings and at weekends, so some out of hours work is to be expected. Overnight working is required during the delivery of residential summer schools
The role holder will receive TOIL or pay for any overtime regardless of when this is at their standard hourly rate.
The dates of the 2025 Summer Schools are:
21 July 2025 – 25 July 2025
18 August 2025 – 22 August 2025
- Staff may be subject to the following, as determined at the discretion of the Head of Department: restrictions on the taking of annual leave during the main enrolment period of each academic year and/or at times of high section-specific workload; occasional work outside of normal hours, on weekends and/or business travel.
- Student and Registry Services operate agile working practices, which include: hybrid working, with a minimum expectation of one day per week in the office, a clear-desk policy as standard, and opportunities for compressed working hours. Working arrangements are subject to the needs of the division.
Skills and experience
- Qualifications commensurate with education to A Level or equivalent, including proficiency in English and Mathematics Application
- Knowledge of UK secondary and higher education systems
- Experience of co-ordinating projects, programmes or events
- Experience of working with primary and/or secondary schools
- Experience of working with children and/or young people
- Experience of providing excellent customer service
- Administrative experience gained in a people-focused environment
- Enthusiasm for widening participation in higher education
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- The ability to communicate effectively with children, young people and their families
- A high level of numeracy and literacy
- Strong information technology skills, with the ability to use Microsoft Office software and quickly learn to use new software or web applications
- The ability to liaise with a wide range of people with tact and diplomacy
- The ability to work effectively as part of a large team
- The ability to manage own workload and prioritise a high volume of complex work effectively
- Having a positive and helpful approach to work
- Responding to colleague, student and stakeholder needs with the intention to provide an excellent service
- Being practical and able to problem solve
