Description

Role
The University of Leicester is seeking a dedicated Sports Assistant/Lifeguard to join our Sport & Active Life team at the Danielle Brown Sports Centre. This role is crucial in ensuring the safety and enjoyment of all facility users while supporting the university’s mission to promote active lifestyles within the community. As part of a small, dynamic team, you will play a key role in the smooth operation of the sports facilities, offering excellent customer service and upholding high standards of safety and cleanliness.

Duties and responsibilities

As a Sports Assistant/Lifeguard, you will provide vigilant supervision of all swimming pool users, ensuring their safety while delivering a first-class customer service experience. You will also assist in the day-to-day operation of the sports facilities, including opening and closing the premises, managing bookings, and overseeing access control to maintain a secure and welcoming environment.

Health and safety compliance is a fundamental aspect of the role, and you will be responsible for conducting regular checks, such as pool and spa water tests, monitoring air and water temperatures, and reporting any faulty or broken equipment. Additionally, you will be expected to perform routine cleaning duties to maintain high hygiene and safety standards across all areas of the facility. Engaging with customers is a key part of the position, requiring you to welcome members, provide information on services, and promote memberships to enhance the overall user experience.

Skills and experience

To be considered for this role, you must hold a valid National Pool Lifeguard Qualification and have experience working in a customer service environment. Strong IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Office programmes, are also essential.

While not essential, it would be beneficial to have a basic understanding of Health and Safety policies and procedures, a current First Aid at Work certificate, and previous experience working in a recreation or leisure setting. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to remain calm under pressure. A friendly, professional manner and a commitment to maintaining high standards of personal presentation are also desirable.
