Role

We are delighted to invite applications for a fixed-term role supporting an NHS England-funded project aimed at advancing ongoing education reform priorities within ODP. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a significant initiative shaping the future of the ODP workforce across the following key workstreams:

    Sustaining workforce supply

    Pathways into ODP pre-registration and preceptorship

    Development of the educator workforce (academic and clinical)

    ODP career pathways    

    Career development framework and progression routes   

    Professional leadership and influence    

    Equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) – Disability

The successful candidates will collaborate closely with principal investigators, researchers, and key stakeholders—including CODP, HCPC, support workers, learners, and managers—to drive the project forward. Each fellow will take responsibility for two workstreams while also working collectively to support progress across all areas. Given the nature of the role, proven experience in project management is highly desirable.

The fellows will play a vital role in the operational management of the project, including organizing and leading knowledge-sharing events at key stages.

It is anticipated that the project fellows will be seconded from their current ODP roles, offering valuable professional development opportunities in education, leadership, and research.

Duties and responsibilities

Main Duties

Work alongside the Principal Investigators and the project team to engage with CODP, HCPC, UCAS and others to review data related to the current ODP workforce system. 

Coordinate the day to day running of workstream activities under the direction of the local project lead including activities such as Project Reference Group meetings and Steering Group meetings

Manage data related to project activities such as literature review, surveys, focus groups and co-design activities. 

Facilitate quality monitoring and review of project activities, including evaluating EDI 

Coordinate producing accessible written summaries of insights gained from project activities.

Regularly liaise with the other project fellows to coordinate activities and ensure all workstreams are supported and progressing appropriately

Contribute to producing outputs in various formats (written, visual, verbal etc) for publication, conferences, final reports and materials for dissemination. 

Undertake such other duties that are allocated by the Principal Investigator(s) /Project Lead(s) 

Skills and experience

Qualifications and Training 

Educated to Degree level or equivalent in an area aligned to research activity - Essential

Evidence of postgraduate study or CPD undertaken in an area aligned to perioperative practice and / or work based learning and development - Desirable

Experience and Knowledge 

Knowledge of perioperative practice and the Operating Department Practitioner careers  - Essential

Experience of leadership in projects related to perioperative practice - Desirable

Experience of facilitating work based learning and development  - Essential

Understanding of quantitative and qualitative research methodologies  - Essential 

Experience of working with Microsoft Office tools  - Essential

Evidence of working in and contributing to a successful team  - Essential 

Skills and Attributes 

Previous experience of using co-production principles in practice or research - Desirable 

Appreciation of the ethics associated with service improvement projects - Desirable     

Excellent attention to detail - Essential 

Strong listening, communication, and collaboration skills - Essential

Hourly pay rate: £18.25, Holiday rate: £2.20 or secondment from NHS role

Key Areas of Work

Communications and Networks 

Post-holder must demonstrate excellent communcation skills that are adaptable to varying audiences and stakeholders  

Communicate via telephone, email, and face-to-face with project participants and stakeholders. 

Communicate frequently, clearly and as appropriate with the principal Investigator(s), project fellows, the Project Steering Group and Project Reference group 

Contribute to the production of reports, case studies and literature reviews. 

Contribute to the writing of reports and publications  

Disseminate findings and outcomes through effective use of approved and effective channels. 

 

Decision Making and Problem Solving 

Assist the project team in resolving issues as they arise.

Make decisions on the day to day administration and strategic delivery of project activity in consultation with the Principal Investigator(s), stakeholders in the Project Reference Group to ensure that objectives and deadlines are met. 

Use individual initiative to develop creative solutions to complex challenges faced in the project such as finding participants for the focus groups, threats to deadline adherence and ensuring EDI. 

Tackle issues affecting the quality of delivery within scope of own level of responsibility, referring more serious matters to others, as appropriate. 

 

Planning and organising resources 

Plan and organise own work in collaboration with the Principal Investigator(s) to meet agreed objectives by prioritising duties 

Analysis and research 

Contribute to the methodological design of workstream activities.  

Recruit and support relationships with participants via email, telephone and face-to-face. 

Maintain records of project activity. 

Conduct data collection activities, that will be co-created within the workstreams. 

Understand the ethical considerations of workstream activities and ensure compliance with appropriate Codes of Ethics. 

Think critically about your own personal development, expertise and qualifications and update these where necessary. 

 

Work Environment / Physical Effort
