Role

The Business, Manufacturing and Innovation Spotlight (BM&I) is hiring a Research Assistant to support our work with the creative industries.

Background/About us - The Spotlights are a strategic initiative designed to enhance Warwick’s interdisciplinary research capabilities for tackling complex challenges. The BM&I Spotlight brings together researchers from diverse disciplines across physical and social sciences and the humanities to work on current and salient issues for organisations. Our vision is to work with industry and research institutions to define and influence the future of business, manufacturing and innovation. As part of this we aim to develop Warwick’s relationship with the creative industries, collaborating with partners in the West Midlands and beyond.

Duties and responsibilities

Working closely with the B,M&I Spotlight team, you will:

  • Provide a comprehensive picture of the University of Warwick’s research capability in the creative industries.
  • Identify potential opportunities for collaboration across disciplines.
  • Compare our areas of strength with the priorities of key partners and funders such as research councils and industry.
  • Provide recommendations on how to enhance the visibility of our research in the creative industries and on how to further engage with the local cluster of creative firms.
Liaise with the BM&I Spotlight leadership team and with colleagues in Research & Impact Services, communicating via MS Teams and email, and attending relevant meetings.

Skills and experience

We are looking for candidates who meet the following criteria:

Essential

  • Good time management and organisational skills, with track record of meeting deadlines and effectively managing workload and priorities
  • Strong communication skills, with experience of writing and presenting reports in different formats (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and summarising information to senior stakeholders
  • Adept at working within a team and independently
  • Capacity to quickly master new areas of knowledge and relevant skills

Desirable

  • Familiar with University processes and systems, ideally with experience of working at Warwick or another HEI environment
  • Experienced with data analysis
  • Knowledge of the creative industries
  • Experience of working with external partners, especially those in business/industry
  • Awareness of UK research funding landscape/priorities

Location
Hybrid Role - expected to attend regular face-to-face meetings at the University and local area

Start and end date: 7 April until 31 July 25 subject to possible extension
