Description
Role
The University of Leicester is seeking a dedicated Research Assistant to support a project titled "The role of cultural institutions in the UK's higher education research ecosystem." This initiative, funded by the Society for Research in Higher Education (SRHE), aims to investigate collaborations between cultural institutions and Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in the UK. The successful candidate will work within the School of Marketing and Strategy at the University of Leicester School of Business.
Duties and responsibilities
The Research Assistant will be responsible for identifying and establishing contact with potential interview participants from the Research Excellence Framework (REF) impact case studies database, focusing on those that exemplify collaboration between cultural institutions and UK HEIs. The role will involve conducting in-depth interviews, lasting between 45 and 60 minutes, with 15 participants from HEIs, including academics and research and innovation staff, as well as 15 participants from cultural institutions such as museums, libraries, archives, art galleries, theatres, concert halls, opera houses, music festivals, and literary organisations. The post-holder will also be required to perform the initial coding and analysis of all 30 interview transcripts to extract key insights.
Skills and experience
The ideal candidate will have a relevant PhD in management or a closely related field, along with experience in conducting in-depth qualitative interviews. Proficiency in using qualitative data analysis software and research documentation tools is essential, as is a proven track record of working on research projects. Strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work flexibly, and effective time management are also key requirements for the role. The successful applicant should demonstrate behaviours that align with the University’s values of inclusivity, inspiration, and impact.
Although not essential, experience in writing reports and academic publications would be advantageous. The University of Leicester is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment and welcomes applications from individuals of all backgrounds. As Citizens of Change, we aim to inspire and empower our community through impactful research and collaboration.
