Role

Our client is looking for an experienced and proactive Operations Manager to oversee the daily operations of their Midlands-based sites. The successful candidate will ensure adherence to company policies and industry regulations while driving efficiency, profitability, and excellent customer service. Compliance with health and safety standards and environmental legislation is a key aspect of this role.This is a permanent role.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety requirements, including staff training in best practices, risk assessment, fire safety, and COSHH regulations.
  • Maintain compliance with Environment Agency guidelines.
  • Monitor operational performance, track key metrics, and prepare accurate management reports.
  • Manage staffing, including scheduling, holiday arrangements, and handling absences.
  • Oversee maintenance and resolve any issues with site equipment, coordinating with operations managers as necessary.
  • Foster and sustain positive relationships with end-users of recycled products.
  • Remain accessible via company mobile phone except during approved leave.
  • Develop and manage supplier partnerships to ensure consistent supply of recycled waste wood within budget constraints.
  • Support the acquisition of new processing and handling equipment.
  • Ensure continued compliance with accreditations, permits, and industry certifications.
  • Promote a strong health and safety culture across all operations.
  • Complete all required documentation accurately and within designated timeframes.
  • Adhere to both company and customer site policies.
  • Comply with all applicable legislation and workplace regulations.
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Notify the company of any changes to personal details, such as address updates.
  • Perform additional duties as required by the company.

Skills and experience

  • In-depth understanding of health and safety regulations.
  • Knowledge of environmental protection policies and compliance.
  • Strong IT and reporting skills.
  • Exceptional organizational and attention-to-detail capabilities.
  • Effective communication and customer service skills.
  • Professional demeanour with a proactive approach.
  • Relevant professional certifications (COTC, IOSH, WAMITAB).
  • Proven experience managing a busy operational site.
  • Previous experience in an operations management role, ideally within the recycling, waste management, or related industry.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Proven ability to ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
