Role
The University of Edinburgh’s Information Services Group (ISG) invites applications from undergraduate students interested in working this summer as a Curious Edinburgh Digital Tours Intern. The key purpose of this role is to improve the Curious Edinburgh digital walking tours content, by auditing existing tours, developing new content and migrating them to a new platform (ArcGIS StoryMaps). Curious Edinburgh is a series of walking tours available via a website and an accompanying mobile application, developed by the University of Edinburgh for the public, and for use in teaching at the University. Tours include: History of Witchcraft in Edinburgh, Women in STEM, and History of Science, Technology & Medicine.
Within this role you will gain practical experience in auditing and creating engaging written content for a wide range of audiences, which will bring Edinburgh’s scientific heritage and social and cultural developments to life. The skills you will develop by completing this internship include: digital written content development, and target creation, monitoring, and reporting. You will join a team in the Website and Communications department, who manage the University website, as well as platforms such as Learn and MyEd. You will also work with academics and key University stakeholders, as well as consulting with digital sustainability interns, to ensure that the tour content is delivered in the most sustainable way.
You can expect to start work on the 2nd June 2025 and work until the 22nd August 2025. You will work between a minimum of 28 hours to a maximum of 35 hours per week (Monday to Friday). This will be in a hybrid working pattern split between working from home (commutable distance from Edinburgh), and in Argyle House. Your preference on working hours within the above range can be discussed during the interview stage. You will be paid £12.67 per hour, plus £2.29 per hour holiday pay. Payment is one month in arrears, meaning your first payment date (should this position start when expected) will be on the 28th July 2025.
For more information on what to expect as an ISG Summer Intern and to hear from previous interns, please see our ISG Student Employment website.
