Role

The Central Exams Team are looking to expand their team of invigilators for the May exam period which runs Tuesday 6th – Friday 30th May. 

Please state the dates that you are available in your Cover Letter. The number of shifts available during the period cannot be guaranteed.

This role with the central Exams Office is where City’s three main examination periods are run annually. There is an opportunity to continue work in future examination periods based on performance. 

Please note, successful candidates will need to be available for a short 10-minute interview on Thursday 27th March via Teams and for in-person training 2pm-4pm on Tuesday 15th April. Training will be two hours and paid at the role rate.

Duties and responsibilities

Examination Invigilators are essential to ensure the fair and proper conduct of examinations in an environment that enables exam candidates to perform at their best. 

Duties include: 

  • Setting up the examination venue 

  • Applying exam procedures 

  • Supporting and supervising candidates 

  • Collection and delivery of exam scripts for marking 

Skills and experience

  • Ability to follow pre-defined processes and apply them consistently 

  • Ability to follow the instruction of the Head Invigilator 

  • Ability to handle difficult situations with support from the Head Invigilator 

  • Accuracy and attention to detail 

  • Professional attitude 

  • Reliability 

  • Flexibility 

  • Previous Invigilator experience desirable 

  • Due to the nature of this role, this position is not suitable for current City Undergraduate or City Masters Students. However, PhD students, staff and those external to City are welcome to apply.

Interview date: Thursday 27/03/2025 (remote via Teams) 

Additional required dates: Mandatory Training on Tuesday 15/04/2025 for successful candidates. The session lasts 2 hours and is paid. Please only apply for the role if you are available on this date as we are not offering alternative training sessions at this time.   

Hours and days 

There are two exam sessions each day which are allocated based on required skills and exam needs. The AM shift will start at 09:15, the PM shift will start at 14:15. Shift lengths are dependent on the exam and are typically 2-4 hours.
