About the role:
The UCL Welcome Ambassador Programme runs every year and provides current UCL students of all nationalities and levels of study, the chance to work with UCL staff members and help run events and services related to the welcome and induction of new UCL students. During the main welcome and induction periods in September and January, UCL Welcome Ambassadors work on events and services including UCL ID card, International Week events, campus tours, running information points, managing queues and running mixer events.
We also work with other teams throughout the school year and summer so expect there to be other types of work available to you to sign up for should you wish.We consider the UCL Welcome Ambassador Programme one of our most important initiatives as it gives the opportunity for students and staff to work together for the betterment of the university using what we believe is a key component; peer-to-peer support.

Duties and responsibilities
- Attend one of the compulsory training sessions in September.
- Maintain punctuality and professionalism within role.
- Be a welcoming, friendly and visible presence on campus.
- Act as general welcome ambassador, lead campus tours, manage queues, run information points, and help with the management and running of welcome activities (such as international events, Welcome Fair, and ID card service and help desk rooms).
- Provide information and advice to new and current students and staff on campus.
- Work alongside and communicate with other Welcome Ambassadors, and when necessary, refer more specific queries to a Senior Welcome Ambassador
- Respond to emails and admin requests promptly.
General
- Follow and actively promote the UCL Ways of Working.
- Carry out any other duties within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job as requested by the Student Welcome and Induction team.
- To undertake all work in line with UCL policies, procedures and regulations and to always ensure the promotion of equality of opportunity and non-discrimination in accordance with UCL’s Equal Opportunities policies.

Skills and experience
- Must be studying for a degree at UCL. This can be at undergraduate or postgraduate level.
- Knowledge of UCL services across the organisation (e.g. Student Support and Wellbeing, Library Services, Careers, Student Funding, Student’s Union)
Skills and abilities
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to adapt your approach to different student groups.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Able to work in high intensity environments.
- Ability to observe and follow set procedures and guidance.
- Excellent personal organisation and conduct.
- Ensure accurate timekeeping and punctuality.
