Role
The University of Edinburgh’s Information Services Group (ISG) invites applications from undergraduate students interested in working this summer as a Digital and AV Intern. The key purpose of this role is to offer assistance, expertise and resource in the areas of SharePoint management, web editing, filming and photography, to support the projects, services and events managed by the ISG Communications Department.

Within this role, you will gain practical experience in co-running a staff Intranet, and reviewing and auditing content to improve the ISG website. At the end of this internship, you will have achieved the following outcomes: improved the newly launched ISG Staff Intranet through all aspects of SharePoint, reviewed and improved the delivery of Events and Conferences in ISG, and carried out a range of digital improvements across different platforms. You will join the ISG Communications Department who are responsible for the staff communications to over 800 members of staff, as well as offering communications leadership and support to several key projects.

You can expect to start work on the 2nd June 2025 and work until the 12th September 2025, with an outlook to continuing in the 2025-26 academic year. You will work 15 hours per week (Monday to Friday) in a hybrid working pattern split between working from home (commutable distance from Edinburgh), and in Argyle House. You will be paid £12.67 per hour, plus £2.29 per hour holiday pay. Payment is one month in arrears, meaning your first payment date (should this position start when expected) will be 28th July 2025.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Assisting with the running of the ISG Staff Intranet (SharePoint site), ensuring an accurate, timely and professional presentation to staff members, and assisting with other projects and services that are part of the ISG Communications Plan;
  • Conducting web editing tasks, with a particular focus on the ISG Website; reviewing and auditing content and user experience, to continually improve and address the team’s web estate;
  • Assisting the team with video, photography, AV, and film editing as required, whilst ensuring a professional delivery of the services, supporting project and services objectives;
  • Working alongside teams for identified projects, and offering resource, services and advice, to ensure a joined-up approach to communications, events, staff experience and digital AV.

Skills and experience
Essential criteria:

  • A current University of Edinburgh undergraduate student (you must be a matriculated student for the duration of your employment). Internships are open to all undergraduate students, except those in their final year of study. You also must not hold the role of ‘Resident Assistant' as this position is expected to run into term-time;
  • Based in the UK for the duration of the work, within commutable distance of Edinburgh, and able to work on campus (we cannot accommodate individuals working overseas due to tax and legal implications), and able to attend a Right to Work Check in person if needed;
  • Prior experience with, or studies in, web services, web editing, AV, film and video;
  • Demonstrable proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite and Microsoft SharePoint (including editing and managing content);
  • Proven ability to manage workload effectively, whilst working to multiple deadlines;
  • Evidence of good teamworking skills, with the ability to support colleagues when required;
  • Demonstrable excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Evidence of a proactive approach to work and an ability to work independently.
Desirable Criteria:
  • Interest in continuing working 15 hours per week into the 2025/26 academic year;
  • Prior experience of leading a project or deliverable, including stakeholder management.

Location
Hybrid, split between working from home (commutable distance from Edinburgh), and in Argyle House, 3 Lady Lawson Street, Edinburgh, EH3 9DR.
