Description

Role

The University of Edinburgh’s Information Services Group (ISG) invites applications from undergraduate students interested in working this summer as a Unitemps Recruitment Intern. The key purpose of this role is to collaborate with the team on tasks across the entire student recruitment cycle including writing job adverts, liaising with students and university staff, and completing pre-employment checks for incoming workers. You will also be heavily involved in the summer internship programme, acting as a voice for interns and organising social and networking events.

Within this role, you will gain practical experience in supporting multiple conflicting projects and activities relating to student recruitment and experience, planning and managing events, and communicating with a range of stakeholders. The skills you will develop by completing this internship include working with high attention to detail, communicating effectively on both a written and verbal basis, and writing compelling job adverts that will be marketed across the student body. You will join the Unitemps team who are responsible for facilitating student employment across ISG and focus on providing a high-quality service to hiring managers, student staff, and prospective workers.

You can expect to start work on the 23rd June 2025 and work until the 12th September 2025, with an outlook to continuing on reduced hours in the 2025-26 academic year. You will work between a minimum of 28 to a maximum of 35 hours per week (Monday to Friday) in a hybrid working pattern split between working from home (commutable distance from Edinburgh), and in Argyle House. Your preference on working hours within the above range can be discussed during the interview stage. You will be paid £12.83 per hour, plus £2.32 per hour holiday pay. Payment is one month in arrears, meaning your first payment date (should this position start when expected) will be the 28th July 2025.

For more information on what to expect as an ISG Summer Intern and to hear from previous interns, please see our ISG Student Employment website.

  • Conducting pre-employment checks for students due to begin assignments and running virtual induction sessions for new starters;
  • Co-managing intern social and networking events throughout the summer internship programme;
  • Writing job adverts for new student staff positions, and looking for innovative ways to market opportunities to the student community;
  • Engaging with students and managers throughout the recruitment process, ensuring a high-quality service is provided at all times;

  • Based in the UK for the duration of the work, within commutable distance of Edinburgh, and able to work on campus (we cannot accommodate individuals working overseas due to tax and legal implications), and able to attend a Right to Work Check in person if needed;
  • Evidence of excellent written communication skills, with an ability to produce clear, engaging written content for a range of stakeholders;
