Description
Role
As an Experienced Learning Support Worker, you will support autistic adults in acquiring knowledge and skills that enhance their well-being, independence, and social inclusion. You will work with learners one-on-one and in small groups, both on-site at our adult centre and in the local community, following individualised curriculums to foster lifelong learning. As an experienced team member, you will also mentor and train new Learning Support Workers.
Duties and responsibilities
- Deliver individualised learning plans and curriculums to support learners’ development.
- Plan, prepare, and implement learning sessions and activities.
- Provide behavioural support and help reduce barriers to learning.
- Ensure learners’ personal care needs are met, encouraging independence in hygiene, dressing, and eating.
- Support community-based social, leisure, and educational activities.
- Assist learners in accessing employment opportunities.
- Encourage decision-making and empowerment, promoting choice and independence.
- Collect, record, and analyse data on learners’ progress and adjust support as needed.
- Administer medication in line with policies and respond to medical emergencies.
- Manage key worker responsibilities for designated learners.
- Maintain and update learner records, including activity logs and financial logs.
- Lead off-site trips and community activities.
- Assist with marking care certificates for Learning Support Workers.
- Oversee daily lunch rota management.
- Participate in training and professional development.
- Perform any other relevant duties as required.
Skills and experience
- Professional experience in adult care and community services.
- NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care.
- Experience supporting adults with challenging behaviours.
- Ability to provide personal and intimate care when needed.
- Strong calmness and composure in high-pressure situations.
- Passion for helping others develop skills.
- Positive, patient, and caring attitude.
- Ability to work as part of a team and build strong relationships.
- Experience in leading teams and using initiative.
- Strong record-keeping and reporting skills.
- Confidence in handling confidential information.
- Desirable: Experience in Behaviour Analysis within adult social care.
- Strong literacy and numeracy skills (Maths & English GCSE Grade C/4 or above desirable).
- Commitment to completing CABAS® Teaching Assistant Rank within 9-12 months.
